Activate Tree Planting are exciting to join SERCUL and Friends of Booragoon & Blue Gum Lakes for an very important community planting event!
You don’t have to wait until June to get planting, the 2022 Blue Gum Western Lakebed Planting will see 20,000 plants to be installed during March and April!
Different to Activate’s usual Wheatbelt events, this is a unique wetland habitat where we will be planting vital wetland sedges, shrubs and trees.
We’ll need all the help we can get to restore the wildlife habitat potential of this lakebed. No prior experience is required, and everyone is welcome, as long as children under 16 have adult supervision.
When: 8am to 1pm
You can arrive and leave whenever as long as you check in and out with the supervisor.
Dates:
Thursday, March 17
Monday, March 21
Friday, March 25
Thursday, March 31
Saturday, April 2
Friday, April 8
Please head to our Facebook page and click GOING on each date you plan to attend so we can manage numbers as best as possible.
The above dates are subject to change based on the weather, COVID situation and progress of planting, so please RSVP to stay up to date on any change of plans.
What to bring: Please provide your own gloves, dress for the weather, and bring enough water and food to get through the day. From experience, we recommend bringing a lot more water than you think you’ll need! Closed shoes and a hat are a must.
Where: The meeting place will be at the grassed area on the corner of Canning Ave and Rogerson Rd (Blue Gum Lake), with the event taking place in the lakebed down the slope from there.
COVID safety: We’ll aim to be as careful as possible with regards to COVID to keep all attendees and our communities safe. As we’ll be outdoors, socially distanced, with hand sanitizer available and without sharing any tools or gloves, these should be very safe events so we hope they can run without any issues. Please stay home if you’re feeling unwell, practice proper hand washing hygiene and avoid sharing any equipment at the event. We’ll keep a close eye on the current situation and make any necessary changes.
